I found a flea on Gizzy this morning!!! :hissyfit
It was easy to spot since... he's solid white and his hair sticks up everywhere :lol
I just don't get it... Gizmo has never in his 9-10 weeks of life been outside longer than a minute in a cage!! We don't have other animals... And I have looked before and never seen any till now... and we have had him a month tomorrow. And it's winter... not that I think that matters. All I can think is when we had Bella before she passed away... the week we had her... maybe she had more than just the couple fleas we saw on her. We bathed Bella and of course she passed away less than a week later. Now, I know I didn't kill the cat bathing her because she was an adult cat and she had an underlying respitory problem. But it still has freaked me out to bath Gizmo. Plus being so young (9-10 wks) I wouldn't think it would be safe to bath him. Is their anything I can do? Is the flea treatments the kind you put the drop behind their necks... is that okay for kittens? I know they sell that in Wal-Mart for like $10. Any suggestions? I only found that 1 flea but there could be more of course. And my major concern is they must be in my house!! :shock

What about flea powder? I think you can use it on your carpet, too. I may have some leftover from when we lived in CA that I can check the age range on for ya! ( If my lazy butt ever goes upstairs:giggle )

You could have tracked the fleas in from outside. They can latch on to your pant leg or something. That's how my indoor cats get fleas. You can't put any flea treatments on your kitty until three months, but you can give him a bath. I had to give both my cats baths until they were old enough to put the flea treatments on them.

You might be able to use a flea collar. Those tend to be pretty easy and not very invasive. I would give a 24 hour emergency clinic a call to see what you can use. That's just the easiest way to get information on the subject without having to make an appointment. Give him a bath and then while his fur is wet try using a fine tooth comb to go through his fur the opposite direction and if you see any you can pull them out with your fingers or with some tweezers. Also I heard you can use Dawn to get fleas off of animals. You could ask the emergency clinic if that would be ok with the kitten. Since we use it everyday with our dishes I don't see how that would be a problem!! :hugs I'm sure he'll be fine though!! Don't freak out.. just a flea!! :D

I normally use the Advantage from the vet, but since Gizzy is so young, I'd just try bathing him. Since it's understandable why you don't want to give him a bath, get some of those bath wipes they have for kitties! I use them on mine and it works much better than trying to fight with them for a bath, you dont wash it off. It's like a baby wipe and it has leave-on shampoo on it, but it's totally safe for them. Walmart has them, and they're pretty cheap there.

How's Gizzy now??

Here the italian vets offer a flea shot that lasts 6 months! That is what we are getting!
