Have you ever directly asked your boss for a raise?

What did you say, how did you approach it and what was the response? Was it easier than you thought it was going to be?

Also, when did you time it? After you just completed a big project or achieved a great sale, etc? Or did you ask at your yearly review? Was it just mid-year when you felt that you'd been working hard over a long stretch of time?

I've always been too chicken!
