View Full Version : Planning my Redneck wedding
davey's_girl 02-13-2008, 07:25 PM Ok so I know it's not for everyone but my fiance and I want to have a fun and personal wedding so we're incorporating camo and "redneck" stuff into our outdoor wedding in May. I'm having a blast coming up with unique favors and decoration ideas. I've been watching the new show on CMT called My Big Redneck Wedding and I've gotta say I love it. We want that same casual fun feel for our wedding. I'm just curious though. When you think of country or redneck what is the first thing that pops in your mind? I'd love some more imput cause I'm pretty much planning this one solo.
Shannon 02-13-2008, 07:32 PM Haha. I love that show. I keep getting sucked into watching it. And what's even scarier is that sometimes I don't even think its that redneck.
noony626 02-13-2008, 07:55 PM I think of koozies...i dunno why though. :dunno
davey's_girl 02-13-2008, 08:00 PM Yeah we had already thought of using Camo before I heard about the show but I'm loving some of the ideas on there. I do have a traditional white dress though.
'Reen 02-13-2008, 09:54 PM that's such a cool idea. not something for me, but i'm anxious to see how it turns out for you!
cari19 02-13-2008, 10:49 PM Orange. Like hunters orange. YOu know bright bright orange. My hubby is a hunter/fisher so we have lots of camo stuff in our shed. Favors.....hmmm, let me think on this one. I am sure I will have a good idea for you.
What about little "fishing licenses" that have your names and wedding date on them. Or you could get M&M'S AND JUST USE THE GREEN AND BROWN ONES. I ll keep thinking
JoeysGurl 02-13-2008, 11:27 PM Found a few different things while searching google. :D
It Might Be a Redneck Wedding...
If the groom is wearing a bowling shirt

If the bride maids have fringe on their skirts and vests
If the wedding is delayed because the groom’s truck wouldn’t start
If the bride’s father brings a shotgun to the wedding
If the wedding march is played on dueling banjos
If the friends of the groom TP the church
If the decorations include any pink flamingo
If the best man is wearing a baseball cap
If the preacher has sideburns and wide lapels
If they throw corn at the couple instead of rice
If the musical selections include Loretta Lynn or George Jones
If the photographer is using a disposable camera from Wal-Mart
If the groom’s men have western boots and sequins on their shirts
If the reception is held at the local waffle house
If the hor dourves include pork skins and bean dip
If guests play pinball machines or shoot pool at the reception
If there is a jug in the backroom
If the wedding gifts include hubcaps, ammunition, or IOUs
If the wedding buffet includes pork barbecue and toothpicks
If the getaway car is a pickup truck with Pabst beer cans tied behind it

If the bride does too
HAVE YOUR TABLE COVERS IN DENIM WITH PATCH POCKET DETAILS. YOUR CENTERPIECES COULD BE HAY BALES (THEY MAKE THEM SMALL) WITH WHEAT AND RED PLAID SCARVES AS DETAILS. DINNER WARE COULD BE THRIFT STORE DINNERWARE , NONE MATCHING,MAYBE ATIN LOOK. HAVE A PORCH FOR A DANCE FLOOR WITH A COUPLE DOGS UNDERNEATH. CUTE, HUH!!
use bales of hay to decorate for the reception; guests could even sit on them; use an old junk convertible as part of the buffet table-just put a piece of ply wood over the back seats and another over the front; serve punch from an old (cleaned of course) bathtub- the kind on legs; have an outdoor bar-b-cue reception; put a bow on the hound dog and let him be the ring bearer;
Hire a local band with a fiddle player and have the decorations be red and white checks, serve kegs of Natty light or Busch beer. Use paper plates and red plastic cups. As a party favor you could, have personalized wedding koozies made, kustomkoozies.com has some examples. For center pieces you can use metal buckets or mason jars as flower vases and put daisies and stalks of wheat and stuff like that in them
My fiances nephew had his reception in a barn and a John Deere tractor pulled the wedding party on a hay wagon from the wedding site (simple out door ceremony) to the reception! It was fun!
For the cake :D

~Lil Mama~ 02-14-2008, 09:42 AM That's awesome! I love that show and would totally have a redneck wedding (although some of the stuff doesn't seem redneck to me)
Icis_930 02-14-2008, 09:55 AM some of it doesn't seem redneck to me either, lmao
my wedding will prolly be ghetto fabulous, lol since when i was getting married before i was going to have to have to receptions, LMAO
let's see... I think of cowboy hats, jeans, beer kegs, barns, cows, BBQ, square dancing, straw and hay, cowboy boots
That's all I can think of for now. I'll post more if I think of more.
storybooker 02-14-2008, 12:20 PM I wore a cowboy hat with my veil attatched to it, my groom wore his cowboy hat with a western dress jacket, cowboy boots, my mom made western vests for all the guys in the line, most of the guys in my line wore cowboy boots, black wranglers and cowboy hats (except one bro. in law, he refused to wear any of it, pissed me off, his mommy told him he didn't have to and she bought him some dress pants and told him just to wear doc martins on his feet! I was so mad at her! he was very out of place in line), my bridesmaids wore broomstick skirts and western laceup shirts, my groom made the back drop out of old barnwood, the reception was held in my parents front yard, they live on a farm so there were cows in the pasture all around the house:giggle, my cake had a cowboy groom and girl on top with sprigs of wheat and hay blossoms. After cutting the cake we did our toast with boot shaped glasses instead of champagne glasses. Our centerpieces were old lanterns with barbed wire boots around them, in the entrance to the yard we had a barbed wire heart with our names in the center of it (also barbed wire) it was way fun and western but it was kind of classy also, everyone in my parents home town still talks about it and it's been 4 years! The all said it was the best reception they'd ever been too and nothing has compared to it yet. I'll attatch some pictures.22

Daydreamer 02-14-2008, 12:48 PM lol the first thing i think of when i think of "redneck" is mullets :lol
I think it's SO cool of you both to step away from the social norm and to do something that really speaks to you! JoeysGirl's idea for a cake is AWEEOME!
ETA: Storybooker you're so pretty! Your wedding was beautiful and looks like it was a lot of fun.
davey's_girl 02-15-2008, 10:57 PM It Might Be a Redneck Wedding...
"If the bride wears a crop top so her tattoo will show"
:teehee my strapless dress will show 2 of my tats
"If the bride carries a bouquet of artificial flowers"
Of course why would you pay hundreds for fresh flowers when you can make your entire bridal party's bouquets for $30 with flowers from the Dollar store.
"If the wedding is delayed because the groom’s truck wouldn’t start"
Hmmm we'll have to see on this one...
"If the bride’s father brings a shotgun to the wedding"
I wish he could but it's a no-no on public property. I'm thinking about having the ring bearers carry toy shotguns instead of pillows.
"If the best man is wearing a baseball cap"
He would if I let him
"If the wedding buffet includes pork barbecue and toothpicks"
I was thinking of grilling hot dogs and burgers. Deer meat and pepperoni rolls crossed my mind too.
"If the newlyweds will reside in a mobile home"
yea well it's rent free so I'm not complaining
davey's_girl 02-15-2008, 11:00 PM Storybooker: Thanks for sharing. Your wedding looks awesome and I love the cake.
Lux: Yea. I like to be practical and between the two of us we have 5 kids so I really don't want to spend fortune on a traditional wedding. This way is fun and so much kinder to my budget. I don't care if people like it or not it suits us and that's all that matters.
storybooker 02-17-2008, 06:04 PM [quote=davey's_girl;210107]Storybooker: Thanks for sharing. Your wedding looks awesome and I love the cake.
Thanks. My flowers were fake......lol, I could have cared less! My grandmother made them for free! In the pic of DH and I alone my boquet is hanging on the backdrop behind us, lol....grandma got carried away! It weighed a ton!
davey's_girl 02-17-2008, 06:30 PM Yeah I'm making my own flowers. I literally only spent about $30 on the supplies. LOL it takes a lot of silk flowers to make a bouquet weigh a ton. I'll try to get some pics up when I finish them.
Trishandkids 04-23-2008, 10:13 AM For where people sit have the place settings be the back of jeans. One pocket have a red bandanna (sp?) and in the other have the silverware.
If the wedding is outdoors do not have chairs. Have everyone sit on hay bales.
Have your minister talk in redneck, using ya'll and such.
Lots of makeup for you. Dark blue eyeshadow, lots of eye liner, and you should chew gum like a cow.
These were all suggestions for a redneck wedding. If you want country ideas let me know. Mine was country and I was very happy with it.
