How many ladies work in retail or have worked in retail?

I have been working for a full week at Avenue, for those of you who don't know what it is, it's a plus sized clothing store.. I like it so far.. But who knows when it starts getting busier.

I used to work retail. I've worked in a cosmetics boutique that doesn't exist anymore, Office Depot, the Royal Doulton (fine China - most boring job ever!), a bulk candy store (for about a week LOL), Motherhood Maternity (for about 6 weeks), and The Children's Place as the assistant manager/manager. That last one was actually fun. I stayed over a year there. But I really started to hate people so that's when I knew it was time to quit. :yes

Good luck with your job!!

I worked at JC Penney for almost 4 years. I really liked retail :) I think once you work retail you appreciate all retailers so much more!

I worked retail for pretty much all my teenage years. I worked at a lot of places in the mall, Styles for Less, Anchor Blue, Bath and body Works, etc LOL. It wasn't so bad, my favorite place to work was Bath and body works, cuz of the discounts :P

I've worked at Victorias Secret, Bath & Body Works, Kay Jewelers, & Home Depot.
I like working at Victorias Secret for the discount!

Okay.. So I worked at the Avenu for about a month.. I QUIT!!! I was treated like crap there. The managers were harassing me. I mean.. I had to get a doctors note to use the damn bathroom! I was sent home for asking to use the bathroom also. I am not the only employee who they have treated baddly, girls are always quiting there. And now they added a new policy, you HAVE to get a credit otherwise they right you up. That is a great way to motivate your employees, threaten them!

The manager I was having the most issues with was Janet, she is a bitch! Within the spanm of not even a week I have had about two or three incidents in a row with her and then one with Malie.. And two with the main manager.. All over me using the bathroom! (I had a bladder infection, and they would not let me take a Uristat at work.. I needed to take it at home.. Which would work out great if I could actually tell when I'm getting one) they had a meeting with me, and pretty much had me crying! I felt so bad, I was told I did nothing! It was horrible! I will never work for Avenue or a store like it again.

I worked at Crate and Barrel for 2 1/2 years. It is an amazing company with great people. The environment is always positive, smiling, helpful - between employees and between employees and customers. I had originally joined as a seasonal worker to make a little extra cash, but once i got there, I fell in love. Not only do I believe in their products and the quality, but th company as a whole is just fantastic with innovative, customer-oriented ideas. Their customer service is just top-notch, and employees are taught to bend over backwards for their customers. We help each other out, and always do so with a smile. I really felt like I was a part of a family there. It was so different from any other work environment I've ever been in. Even though I left after some managerial changes, I still only have positive things to say about the company and the type of people they hire -- its not necessarily based on experience, but whether or not you'll fit in and have that positive attitude that is so essential to making things run smoothly.

Anyway, if you want a great place to move into retail, Crate and Barrel is a stellar place to stay, and hopefully stay!

And Bondage - I'm sorry Avenue turned out to suck so much. I hear a lot of stories like that about people in retail, and feel so lucky that I never had to deal with that sort of crap myself.

I always wondered what that store was. We have one in the town I live in and I've never gone in there since I figured there were clothes in there for my MIL's age. How are the prices?

I've been working at Cavender's Boot City for about five months now .. I love the people, and it's the funnest work environment I've ever been in, my assistant mangers and manager are pretty amazing .. except when my manager is having a bad day..

Too bad the pay sucks, so I had to put in my two weeks yesterday.
