Have you flown recently and had to pay for your meal even though it was an extended flight? I keep hearing about charged meals and stuff, but haven't experienced it yet myself. What airline was it? Do any of your airlines not offer any sort of snack or beverage either?

We normally fly USAir, formerly American West. America West offered unlimited snacks (pretzels or peanuts, or a combo of both) and drinks. USAir is a pita and it's a bitch to try to get more juice or soda if you want it...especially if you are flying with a toddler. However, their breakfast, lunches & dinners aren't so bad to purchase. They are pretty tasty. Honestly my favorite was the cheese and fruit tray w/yogurt. It was awesome.

However, I have also been spoiled by being able to upgrade or be upgraded to first class  Talk about good food & service!! Not to mention alcohol :lol

The last time I flew was on American Airlines and I'm pretty sure they gave me lil snacks like peanuts for free as well as the drinks but I had to pay for the food. They didn't give dinner meals out like they used to which really sucks. That's why the next time I fly I'm bringing snacks for the flight.

How have you been getting upgraded, Jenny?

When I flew United to Hawaii we had to pay for our meals. Every other flight I've been on recently has been a short one so the snacks/soda was free.

I have only ever been first class on a long flight, so I am no help.

I just fly southwest when I go to CT though, so it's peanuts/pretzels and tons of diet coke :lol

The last time I went on a long flight (from Newark to Amsterdam) we got a meal no charge (so...like a 7 hour flight maybe). :dunno This was Northwest. I'll be flying Northwest & Quantas (sp?) to Australia and they list having meals on there, too....however the flight is like 24 hours.

How have you been getting upgraded, Jenny?

I'm a silver elite member of USAir, so if they have available seats in first class, they automtically will upgrade you.

Otherwise, i'll foot it and pay the $100 upgrade fee :yes

I usually only get meals for international flights... I get snacks on my flights between San Diego and Boston all the time though, if I'm awake for them! Even my during my short layover flights (eg Las Vegas - San Diego).

I also like usair.

The meals themselves are quite tastey, the breakfast was muffins hot eggs with a biscuit, and fruits, also cereal with milk.

Lunch was sandwiches, salads, a hot sandwiche, and also snacky stuff.

Dinner was like the lunch with a few more hot foods.

If you want the food it does cost, except for these weird sweet biscuit things and pop/water, it wasn't badly priced.

I did an experiment and requested a kosher meal, and it was better than anything cause it was from a restraunt in the airport. I would also reccomend doing the special meal if you are veg. Or have allergies:)
