Please tell me the GI side effects get better with time. I am getting sick of feeling like I am going to burp and/or vomit constantly. I'm almost two weeks in, 5 days of 1000 mg now.

I am right there with you girl I just started it last Friday and I feel the same way :sick My doctor did tell me today to try stick to a south beach type of diet and I would feel better :neutral I guess it is worth a try.

How long do you have to take it? As of right now I was told to take it for a month. I so hope it will not be longer than that.

I'm taking it for at least 2 months, at which point we reevaluate and see if I need to up the dose. More than likely I am on for life.

what is Metformin used for?

nevermind I just googled it. I know its mainly used for people with high blood sugar but I didnt know they were using it to treat PCOS either. that might be why you feel kinda sickish. I would do like Karen said and try to watch your sugar intake or just watch your carbs or something. I might be wrong since I am not a nurse or a Dr.

Yeah, I'm on a glycemic diet too, but yesterday I ate nothing high in carbs or sugar and the burp/puke feeling was outta control. I've been on a glycemic type diet since christmas time.

Today, so far so good. I'm wondering if maybe yesterday I actually didn't have enough carbs and sugars. I've eaten a bit more today and it seems to be a bit better.

yup, it is mostly a diabetes med, but one of the big things with PCOS is insulin resistance, which when left untreated can lead to diabetes. I am more than likely insulin resistant(my first set of test were borderline, which is why we are retesting in two months) so I am starting the metformin now.

Mine got better....I took 500mg for a few days/maybe a week....then continued upping it until I reached my 1500mg dose....I didn't go on any particular diet but I did find when I started eating "better" (less fast food, more fruits and veggies ect.) it got even better........but once you stop the meds for any length of time you have to go through it all again (thats what I'm doing now because I got off of them when DH wrecked last month because I couldn't remember to take it.)

But good luck..it made me ovulate the one month I was on it at the 1500 mg dose.

Fug. I hate this. I made this super yummy dinner, it smells delicious...but one bite and am ready to puke it up. I HATE this. Please please please go away side effects. I wouldn't care if it was junky food, but come on? Brown rice, steamed asparagus, and grilled chicken? that's HEALTHY!

MMMMMMMM that dinner does sound yummy......I hope the side affects go away soon for you... my worst side affect was feeling like my blood sugar was dropping.....I'd get real weak and sick to my stomach and would have to eat RIGHT then.....but I had some GI side affects also.. they suck.....

Yay for Clomid buddies!

Yeah, I have to time mine so that I either just ate or am going to eat as soon as I take it, and I have to eat something every 3 hrs max or I get the sugar crashes. I have started keeping crackers by my bed because I woke up one night and almost passed out trying to get to the bathroom.
