How are you going to encourage your kids to read this summer?
I am finding the older they get, the harder it is to get them to read for pleasure...

Quinn is not a big fan of reading, so this will be hard. Our library has a reading challenge every summer and they get prizes and a party for reading certain numbers of minutes. I'm going to sign him up for that (but I think it will be a battle all summer).

I just told the kids that we are going to go to the library and each will pick a chapter book that they will read. Morissa doesn't always like to read, but she has found a few series that she enjoys. Matt just doesn't read. I wish he could find something he liked to read. There are so many good books out there!

We always read before bed during the summers, but we kept busy outside mostly so it was a good way to relax at the end of the day and the habit continued as we got older.
Maybe Matt could go to the library and find some books to read that interest him?

We sit down with the kids everyday and night to read to them! I took them to the library yesterday to pick out a couple of books. So next week I will take them back and get more books to read.
My boys love to read!

Our local library has a summer reading program. They give you a reading log with ten spaces to write down ten books. Each time you turn a completed log, they get stuff. And the more they turn in, the better the prizes. Like, it starts out with a sticker then a coupon to chuk e cheese's and the ultimate prize is 2 free tickets to Hurricane Harbor or Six Flags. We live in the area... There is also a pool party mid summer for anyone who joined the program during the summer. It's pretty cool! We did it last year, and she read a lot! We're gonna do it this year too!

I think the best thing for us would be to have them see us reading again. We used to read at the same time, which was good for everyone, but it's been a while since we've done that. I may read the same books they're reading so that we can discuss it afterwards.
